So the age old question arises once more… where’s ya favourite place to ride t’bike like?
The Dirt Factory team have ridden a range of different trails, sometimes as a group, with others or alone, some once in a lifetime and others as often as daily… and some are just really, really lucky and get to ride sick trails all year!
“Choosing a favourite riding spot is hard. My head is saying Whistler and Portes du Soleil, but I want to pick more local dirt. So…my favourite riding spots are Revolution Bike Park, Llangollen and Foel, all in North Wales. I also love riding Farmer Johns Bike Park and the local trails around Saddleworth.” Dan
“I do love riding my mountain bike in the Peak District. Close to home there are lots of cool natural trails around Saddleworth and Stalybridge but one of my favourite routes has to be Cut Gate Path, in both directions from Langsett. Further afield, Glentress and other trails in Southern Scotland still put a smile on my face. For trails in a city centre, the pump tracks and forest routes in Zurich are awesome.” Andy
“My favourite places to ride in the world are St Moritz, Switzerland, Rancho Cacachilas, Baja California Sur, Mexico, Central Bike Park in Monterrey, Mexico, Revolution Bike Park, Wales and the HillBilly Huckfest farm in Al, Norway. Of course with the travelling I do for my work as a trail builder I get to ride many fun, interesting and exciting trails so it is difficult to pick my favourites. Really the best place to ride for me is almost any trail with your friends, great views, exciting, progressive features and a cold beer waiting at the bar afterwards!” Mark
“They’re some great shouts from Mark but you can’t beat your local trails! Windy, slippery, moorland tracks around Saddleworth are what got me into mountain biking and made me want to keep at it. More recently, I’ve been riding the uplift serviced, dusty, rocky trails around Budapest, straight out the door. I love high alpine Austrian singletrack, and there’s plenty of it. Classics like Glentress and Llandegla hold great memories from the early days and will likely be the scene of many more.” Gary
Well there you have it… I think we found a consensus?! There are lots of awesome trails out there and new ones are being created all the time. If you can travel the world make sure you take your bike with you (or hire one at least). I completely agree with Gary though…
The trails I love the most are the ones you can hit straight out the door, no bike racks, no vans, no motorways and most of all no faffing around in the car park! Just grab the bike, your helmet and bounce… keep it simple!
I’d say the best trail is the one you just found, the one you just scratched out with your mates or the one you’re riding right now, they’re all great. We’d love to hear what your favourite mountain bike trails are too. Please comment below or on our Facebook or Twitter pages.
Happy riding folks, Ian
