Super Sunday, yes it was. The Dirt Factory pump track kept children very busy at this years Marvelous Mossley festival which took place at top Mossley park yesterday 11-3pm. The Dirt Factory team was on hand all day delivering free bike skills, coaching session and bike repairs. This was the fourth out of twelve sessions available through the Ride Mossley project. To find out when the next free cycling session is head to the Ride Mossley page.
The Dirt Factory team set up a unique pump track circuit which kept riders entertained and coming back for more. Young people aged between 5 and 16 either turned up on their own bikes or borrowed one of the Dirt Factory hire bikes and helmets. Even a few adults couldn’t resist a ride of the circuit.
The Event was a great opportunity to inform people about all the other FREE summer sessions aimed at young people aged 8 -16, at lots of flyers were handed out and 10 people signed up on the day. Before too long the scouts trooped towards the huge canvas marquee they had assembled early morning ready to take it down, 3pm had arrived fast. In four hours of glorious festival fun, 42 individual riders used the pump track and took part in the coaching sessions. At least 50% rode on the pump track all day and only stopped to grab some water or an ice cream.
The aim of the bike skills sessions are to provide a gateway to developing an ingrained lifelong interest in a sport – and the Dirt Factory pump track and air bag are excellent tools being used to positively engage and educate people. The pump track is designed as such that anyone is able to use it – all users need is the basic ability to ride their bike, scooter, skateboard, roller skates or any other wheeled equipment.
It was a Super Sunday, the England football team beat Panama and the Dirt Factory team enjoyed bringing something a little different to the people of Mossley and we hope to return next year.
